The Parade at Bobbleton is surprisingly rousing for such cheesy synths.
unhiphop [ar 2] is electronica, with layers of chill and noodling synths, head-bobbing percussion, & glitch.
ripples has synths that remind me of a Vangelis soundtrack. It starts with calm synths, builds a nice momentum, then mellows out again.
That wraps up the coverage from the first Music Challenge.
Storm is a quiet instrumental piece, set during a rainstorm in the desert.
While the Gittin’ is Good is surf rock, with the guitar thrown through a punkish distortion pedal.
Nested Sorrow is an instrumental piece, featuring a dissonant ukelele.
Don’t Let Jessamyn Pick the Themes is an instrumental acoustic song, with seagulls. It’s another take on the first Music Challenge, water.
spanish cakes is a mellow, improvised acoustic guitar piece.
Owl Creek manages to convey moods with its acoustic guitar.
Hopeful Hopeful uses a loop pedal to make a fugue, so that the guitar’s playing both in the foreground and background.
Ten Thousand Waves is an atmospheric electronica song.
Elfrita the Landlord is an awesomely bouncy house song.
Hide and Seek is a pretty acoustic guitar cover of an Imogen Heap song. The White Hat and I were both introduced to the song by the Dear Sister meme in the previous month, spawned by a The Lonely Island / Saturday Night Live short.
Synthoholics Anonymous is a sometimes cheesy, sometimes pretty chiptune romp.
Sanitarium Sound System v2.0 has an awesome rolling bassline.
All The Things You Are is an solo acoustic guitar take on a jazz classic. It’s a lovely song, which you might recognize from Charlie Parker and from Ella Fitzgerald.
Vamp is a quiet and soothing instrumental piece.
Its creator thought it sounded overly like a softcore porn soundtrack, but I think it could use a little bit more, maybe a pulsing saxophone, a squealing guitar solo, or a honking bicycle horn. What do you think?
rabo de nube is a lovely, very mellow cover of a song by Silvio Rodríguez.
Trinity has evocative guitarwork, a metronomic flute, & heartbeat-like drums.
Sock Patterns is all about cheesy synths. It’s instrumental, but ZachsMind wrote accompanying lyrics if you want to read along.
Tasha is a quiet instrumental interlude, in memory of a dog.
Flying Moby Attack is droning space rock.
While the name suggests a bald musician gliding above the ground in an attack position, or an enemy from Zelda II, it’s meant to suggest a cross between the lo-fi space rock of Flying Saucer Attack and the electronica of Moby.
This isn’t in the usual genres covered here – Hunting for Foxes is a nice bit of metal. The video I picture for it involves highway driving and guitar playing, in the desert. It would rock.
Lufthansa is an instrumental electronica song that often abruptly switches gears – it shifts from build-up to chill out, and back, and out.
Positronic Hips is a mellow, instrumental bit of electronica from frequently showcased artist Jimbob.
Quantum Mechanics is instrumental electronica that builds up a nice momentum.
Breaking The Mecanique is a hypnotic, dancy remix of a music box.
Long Night and Nothing to Do is a sedate, atmospheric song.
Flagging is a really quiet, spacy, and ambient song.
Glow is another lovely song from Electric Winter. It’s instrumental, with synths, guitars, a drum machine, and a xylophone.
Aware is a mellow electronica song from Electric Winter.
Edit: As a historical curiousity, I joined Metafilter the day this song was posted there.
Unknown (but not untitled) is an instrumental, uplifting, mellow, & happy electronica song. More music from Electric Winter is coming up shortly – on the podcast, if not on Music.
Acidspit13 is an excellent dancable electronica track, with multiple layers of rhythm.
Concerta Helps You Concentrate is a really quick-moving piece of electronica. Speedy, even.
awescillate is an aggressive electro track. It’s sorta obnoxious & repetitious, but, well, I like it.
Nova (Type III Mix) is an upbeat, sorta glitchy electronica track.
FX3 – Thrash is awesome 16-bit game music. I want to play this game! Sadly, it doesn’t exist.
